Edmonton Premiere! LOVING VINCENT is visual wonder that explores the life and work of Vincent van Gogh. The recognizable post-impressionist style of van Gogh is brought to life through an imaginative animation process that saw each frame of the film being painstakingly hand painting by a collection of 125 painters. This impressive feat of being the world’s first fully hand painted animated feature meant using 65,000 individually hand painted frames, which shown at 24 frames per second exudes a fitting expressivity and visual energy to the scenery and people of van Gogh’s life. The film frames itself around Armand (Douglas Booth) attempting to deliver one of van Gogh’s final letters to the painter’s brother in Paris during the summer of 1891, which then transports the viewer through the unique psychedelic language of the animation on an exploration of the passion, process, and mysterious death of van Gogh. The film co-stars Saoirse Ronan, Chris O’Dowd, and Jerome Flynn.

About the Directors: Dorota Kobiela trained as a painter before developing an interest in filmmaking, where she has skillfully combined her skill as a painter into her films to create a unique voice in the world of animation.
