Canadian Premiere! Emma le Roux (Leandie du Randt – a dead ringer for Charlize Theron) is leaving the big city to drive home for the holidays. She’s made this trip to her father’s house a thousand times. Piece o’cake. But not today. Along the way, Emma witnesses a murder and now the killers are hunting her down. Like an animal. There’s Bosman (Neels van Jaarsveld), the mastermind of a drug syndicate and violent psychopath. Baz (Tim Theron) and Jay are his henchmen – violent dogs on a very short leash. AJ and Boela are spoiled brats, looking for validation and any opportunity to make quick cash in the criminal underworld. And then there’s Piet, the weakling, and willing to do just about anything for his cousin Bosman. What these six blood-thirsty bastards don’t know is that Emma is the daughter of a Specials Forces soldier and is armed with her own, unique, weapons of mass destruction. Afrikaans with English subtitles.

From Tim Theron (Co-Producer & Supporting Actor): “With the South African film industry slowly finding its feet, as well as its place on the international stage, we’re finally at a place where a bigger variety of film genres can be attempted, limits can be pushed and new ground can be broken. JAGVELD, based on a script by internationally acclaimed novelist, Deon Meyer, does exactly this. It’s the first suspense action film produced in the Afrikaans language in decades and JAGVELD is also another critical step in producing international quality films in South Africa. Being seen by, and interacting with, the international industry at festivals like the Edmonton International Film Festival is critical for us to take the next step.”
