Director: Michael Haneke | 107-mins. | France/Austria/Germany | 2017 | Drama | TRAILER

Edmonton Premiere! Michael Haneke’s latest effort finds him in a familiar position seen throughout his filmography, revealing the dark underbelly of lies, deceit and misery of the European upper class. Anne (Isabelle Huppert) plays the matriarch to the Laurent family who have made their fortune with a construction firm that is encountering financial trouble. Armed with the day to day life of the Laurent family living in a bourgeois bubble, the film examines the unsettling atmosphere of the human misery unfolding in migrant camps close to the family home, and the obliviousness the family has towards the looming forces of uncertainty. Haneke tackling this modern subject matter might just signal a trend to be seen in the near future of filmmaking, especially in Mediterranean markets, as the complexities and moral ambiguities of the European migrant crisis continue to expand. French with English subtitles.
