Director: Sebastián Lelio | 104-mins. | Chile/Germany/Spain | 2017 | Drama/LGBTQ | TRAILER

Edmonton Premiere! Sebastián Lelio’s latest is a work of searing empathy, it traces the devastating grief of a young protagonist, treated like a criminal in the wake of her older partner’s abrupt death. There is a rawness to the intimacy the audience shares with the stellar lead Marina (Daniela Vega), who plays a transgender singer in Chile, that renders this film to be a bold and timely statement about the reality of transgender rights both in Latin and North America. Marina, whose very identity is in stark contrast towards the authority figures she encounters, allows the audience to go a exploration of female sexuality, solitude, alienation and resilience. Spanish with English subtitles.

About the Director:
Chile has been yielding some of extraordinary talent in recent years with the burgeoning careers of directors such as Pablo Larraín and Sebastián Lelio. The well-received earlier films of Lelio, THE YEAR OF THE TIGER (2011), and GLORIA (2013), have allowed him to capture breathtaking performances of unique characters, which is especially at play with this year’s A FANTASTIC WOMAN. Later this year we can expect Lelio’s first English language feature DISOBEDIENCE, which stars Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz.
