Here's a look back at 2013...
Opening Night Gala: MUSCLE SHOALS
THURSDAY, September 26th... We raised the curtains and rolled out the red carpet for the spectacular documentary about a little place in Alabama that put out some of the biggest sound in the history of music -- MUSCLE SHOALS. Following the film screening, festival-goers shook it up with the fabulous LENT BROTHERS BAND at the Delta Ballroom. Heartfelt thank-you to everyone attending, and particularly to these supporters who went above and beyond: Mike Ouellette, Mike Lent, Glenda Dennis, Jim Bennett, Sydney Moule, Karen Gill, Todd James and Paul Mennier. Special Event: THE GOOD SON
FRIDAY, October 4th... Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini was in da house! An absolute honour to meet the man behind the book, and now the documentary -- THE GOOD SON: The Life of Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini. A massive, gigantic, warm, heartfelt THANK-YOU to Director, Jesse James Miller (EIFFer's will remember him as the Director/Writer of our 2012 Opening Night Film, BECOMING REDWOOD & winner of BEST CANADIAN FEATURE Film!) for making this event happen! Also attending were Ken Johns (DOP), Adam Scorgie (Co-Producer) and Al Ford, Edmonton boxer who fought Mancini in the early 90's. An incredible evening with beautiful men, and people -- this was a love-in that we will never forget! And a big shout out to LATITUDE 53 for inviting us into your home, GREG GOA, DJ Supah Stah and RENE COLLINS for excellence in capturing all our filmmaker Q&A's! VIEW Photo Album. Watch the Q&A. BUY the BOOK by Mark Kriegel.
Closing Night Gala: BROKEN CIRCLE BREAKDOWN
SATURDAY, October 5th... Actually. We coloured outside the lines and offered festival-goers the choice of TWO (2) films to close with. THE BROKEN CIRCLE BREAKDOWN (Belgium) or THE RIGHT KIND OF WRONG (Canada). Then the curtains came down, we headed over to ZENARI'S for the after-party with bubbly, some bluegrass bustin' with THE BIX MIX BOYS and the icing on our cakes -- KEMO TREATS (watch their PINKY SWEAR video... hilarious! All kinds of filmmakers, directors, producers, writers, editors, and actors travel to our festival -- 'cause our volunteers and audiences and organizers and sponsors and supporters are that damn brilliant and warm and receptive and, well, the list goes on! Please join us in thanking Cinematographer, RENE COLLINS for shooting, editing, and posting more than twenty (20) of these filmmaker Q&As. And a huge shout-out to the many volunteers who also stayed up into the wee hours to moderate these Q&As. WATCH NOW.
