When and how may I submit my film for the 2010 festival?
The postmark deadline for LATE film submissions is June 21st .  Entries postmarked after that date have no guarantee of being viewed for judging.  Films MUST be submitted on-line and we require that fees be paid on-line, or you may enclose a money order with your dvd submission.

Is there any way I can find out the status of my entry earlier than your notification date?
NO WAY!  Please don’t try.  Calling or e-mailing us with this request is kinda like asking the doctor when the baby’s due.  The notification date of August 18th is the soonest we can get decisions from our programming teams.

What format should I submit my film in?
We only accept Region 1 or 0-compatible DVDs for preview.  PAL dvds are also acceptable.  Please be sure to label your dvd with the project’s title.  If your film is selected to screen at EIFF we will work with you to ensure it is exhibited in the most appropriate format – for you, and for us.

Do you waive fees for starving student filmmakers and/or established artists?
No.  Short film categories all have a lower, Student Filmmaker fee.  The reality is that it costs time and money for us to administrate the entire film submission process.  We’re not getting rich.  But we do have to cover our basic costs.

I have two shorts and they’re both on one dvd.  Do I have to send them as separate entries?
Yes.  Each work you submit must be submitted separately, and only one submission per dvd.

Will I receive notification from EIFF that my submission has been received?
Yes.  We update the Withoutabox submission system as SOON as your DVD arrives, so keep checking your WAB account for status updates with EIFF.

Do you consider requests for deadline extensions?
MAYBE.  Please contact us if you need an extension.  Before requesting an extension, please understand that the later we receive your film, the less time we have to view it.  This means that your video can be viewed fewer times and by fewer people on our programming team.

Who should I list as the Primary Contact?
Whomever is going to be our sole contact person over the next months.  Status of your entry will only be communicated with this contact person.  Please understand that in most cases, this contact will be the ONLY person EIFF is in touch with before the festival.

I submitted a film last year and it wasn’t chosen.  Can I resubmit?
YES.  You can resubmit as long as the film has undergone major, creative changes.

Do you exhibit works in progress?
No.  Your film MUST be finished and ready to be shipped to us at least two weeks before the festival begins.

Should I send a publicity kit with my submission?
No.  We will require an electronic press kits ONLY if your film is selected.  In keeping with our efforts to become a carbon neutral festival, we request that you do not send press kits, photo stills or any other propaganda materials.

Will you return my submission dvd?
If you include a stamped, self-addressed envelope, we’d be happy to return your submission after the festival – that includes Edmonton filmmakers.

I had a cast and crew screening of my film in Edmonton.  Does this mean it’s ineligible to screen at EIFF?
No.  Your film is still eligible. Films that have played in Edmonton in a theatrical setting to a general-public audience are ineligible.  Cast and crew screenings do not rule your film out.

My film was not accepted.  Can I request feedback from the programming committee?
No.  It actually saddens us to say this because we are a festival about filmMAKERS and how better to improve your craft than by getting feedback?  We just don’t have the resources to keep an exhaustive list of comments for all the submissions we receive.
