7pm      Empire City Centre 9 Film: Strictly Background (Jason Connell, Director)
Canadian Premiere!  Hollywood… a destination filled with the hopes and aspirations of so many – all of whom are hoping to make it BIG!  But sometimes to make it big, you have to start out small.  Strictly Background is the story of all the little people, the men and women who become the anonymous faces behind our favorite stars.  Find out what life is like for these dedicated aspiring actors – on and off the screen.  Background actors are widely used by the entertainment industry to bring scenes to life, to create authenticity and to fill in behind the action.  But what is it really like on set when some actors are making fifty dollars a day and others make thousands – even millions?  Come take an up close look at those who are rarely seen, in this charming and enormously entertaining documentary that opens the door to a world that usually goes unnoticed.  Winner: Jury Award (Best Documentary) – 2007 San Fernando Valley International Film Festival.  Director Jason Connell and cast members in attendance.  Watch out for some of Edmonton’s finest ‘extras’ from Great West Canadian Talent to be in attendance as well.

9:30pm      Edmonton City Centre
After the screening of our closing night film, walk like an Egyptian down to Funkytown and take an effervescent trip back to the 80s!  Girls just wanna have fun, boys too, and our band Rubik’s Groove will knock your legwarmers off!  Complimentary hors d’oeuvres from the New Asian Village and bubbly!  Big hair and jewelery optional.  Rub shoulders with the director of Strictly Background, Jason Connell, April Mullen and Tim Doiron (Rock, Paper Scissors: The Way of the Tosser), Brett Harvey, Stephen Green and Adam Scorgie (The Union: The Business Behind Getting High), Gil Koffman (The Memory Thief), Patrick Hogan and Phillip Vaden (Pope Dreams), Kerry Dye (Body/Antibody) and Jerry Rapp (Mojave Phone Booth).

11pm      Underground Sound Wrap Party!
It’s over.  The festival, that is.  But only for 356 days.  Let your hair down and lose the legwarmers.  Put the body piercing jewelery back on.  Check out Edmonton City Centre’s explosive film festival wrap party featuring Tommy Lee (yep, the REAL Tommy Lee), DJ Aero and Steve Aoki.  The night is called Underground Sound and it all unleashes in the Edmonton City Centre East Preferred Parkade.  Tix for this event are $25 in advance at TicketMaster or $40 at the door – if any are left!
Listen to the hype!
