We search every year for feature-length dramatic and documentary films to fill 60+ slots during our 10-day festival. EIFF audiences also adore short films which we program into an eclectic variety of shorts packages including the ridiculously popular (we mean that in a good way) "Lunchbox Shorts"... 45-mins. of international short films presented over the lunch hour for our downtown business crowd. Filmmakers will be notified by e-mail only on or before AUGUST 7th.

ENTRY CATEGORIES:
NARRATIVE FEATURE (70-minutes and over): Narrative feature films are dramatic stories over 70-minutes from Canada & around the world. Features are programmed into these streams: CONTEMPORARY INDEPENDENTS, EDGE OF NIGHT, OH CANADA! and WORLD CINEMA. Date of completion: After January 1, 2011. Submission Deadlines & Entry Fees.
DOCUMENTARY FEATURE (70-minutes and over): We're looking for documentaries that engage, enlighten and entertain. Perfect examples of the types of documentaries we look for are MAN ON WIRE, ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL and our 2011 People's Choice winner WILD HORSE, WILD RIDE. Documentary features are programmed into our DOC CEMTRAL and EIFF U (films for High School students) streams. NARRATIVE SHORT (under 30-minutes): Selected films will showcase 'excellence in storytelling'. Short, dramatic films include animation, live-action and experimental in all genres: Family, Comedy (comedy is HUGE with our audiences), Thriller, Film Noir, Western... the list goes on. DOCUMENTARY SHORT (under 30-minutes): We look for all kinds of fascinating, documentary stories that teach us, motivate us, or take us to a place that we might never have gone. Over the years we've programmed THE TENANTS, SIMPLY ROB, NEXT FLOOR, THE TERMS, I AM GIRL and SUNDAY'S BEST -- films that stay with us no matter how much time goes by. OUR OWN BACKYARD: Films By Albertans! (all lengths): You live and work here. You grew up here. Your formative University days were spent here. We want to see your stories! Whatever the genre and the length of your film, ALBERTA filmmakers submit to this category. Films accepted in OUR OWN BACKYARD category are in competition. Date of completion: After January 1, 2011. ALBERTA SHORT FILMMAKERS with a 20-minute or less project!!! EIFF has partnered with CBC Television to bring you a two-for-one submission deal. Submit your short to EIFF by our Earlybird Deadline (March 30) and your short will move into competition for the coveted ALBERTA selection for CBC Television's 2012 Short Film Face Off. NEW!! HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT SHORT (10-minutes or less): To support and cultivate the next generation of filmmakers, EIFF hosts a special competition for students enrolled in grades 9-12 within the greater Edmonton area. Films submitted in this category must be under 10-minutes in length and created/produced between October 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012. Submission deadline is June 30 (postmark deadline). Films must be family friendly (no nudity, sex or coarse language). Submissions will be judged by a panel of independent filmmakers and industry figures. Prizes, including EIFF passes, are awarded to the top 3 finalists. All films chosen will screen as part of the regular 2012 film festival schedule. Entry fees are WAIVED in this category.
