With so many great films playing this year at EIFF, chances are you are having trouble narrowing down your selection. Well, I have your answer: check out some of the short films!
This year, EIFF will be showcasing about 100 short films from around the world. Sydney Moule, production coordinator with the festival, explained that they received about 700 short submissions this year. That's an increase of over 200 from the previous year. Her job, with the help of some volunteers, was to view all the shorts and narrow it down to the 100 that will be featured this year.
“They just keep getting stronger,” said Sydney. “This year it seemed like we had more shorts than any other type of films. We could have have had the whole festival week with just short films.”
At EIFF, short films are broken down by genre or country. This year, you’ll be able to check out packages for children, for adults, Irish Shorts, Spanish Shorts or Canadian Shorts. And don’t worry, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth. A package of shorts includes about 5-10 short films to check out in one sitting.
We will also continue our popular Lunchbox Shorts deal too. Lunchbox Shorts run from Sept 30 to Oct 4 from 12:10 to 12:50, which is perfect for a lunch hour in the downtown area. It cost $13, which includes a Subway lunch and - you guessed it - shorts.
So why check out short films this year at EIFF? Well for Sydney, it’s pretty simple.
“Well these days everybody has such a short attention span,” Sydney laughed. “Shorts are a nice story that are really beautifully shot. They are often between 1 to 20 minutes, so stories are fast paced and then you are on to a completely different story.”
Here are a complete list of short films. Tickets for the shorts are available the day of the screening at our box office.
