EIFF 2010 Edge of Night titles are here!
We've been teasing you all over the past few weeks, giving you a 'taste' of what's coming to EIFF 2010 with previously announced titles Score: A Hockey Musical, FUBAR II, and our awesome Closing Night Gala film, The Rock n Roll Dreams of Duncan Christopher.
But we KNOW you're hungry for a bit more, so tonight, dear EIFF'ers, we thought we'd announce a whole shwack of titles for you before the weekend hits...y'know, get you a little 'extra' motivated to pick up those Hot August Deals REEL DEAL Passes and 6-Packs (see tickets page for the skinny - it's the best fest deal in town, so yer crazy if you don't get your passes NOW!).
So without further ado, here are your 2010 Edge of Night movies!
Friday, September 24th @ 8:00pm (Double Feature!) - I AM BISH and THE LOVED ONES
We're kicking off EoN 2010 with our very own version of Grindhouse, and an undeniably demented double feature from Australia - starting with the ultra-low-budget and ridiculously funny zomedy, I AM BISH, followed by the movie that's turned festival audiences around the world into nervous, sweaty-palmed wrecks...Sean Byrne's brilliantly demented horror masterpiece, The Loved Ones. Imagine The Texas Chainsaw Massacre directed by John Hughes, and you'll start to get the idea. Inspired by last year's Edge of Night Opening Night film, the Oz-ploitation doc Not Quite Hollywood, we're give the Aussies their due with this double-dose of delerium! Don't say we didn't warn you...
Saturday, September 25th @ 9:30pm - LET ME IN
Matt Reeves (director of the awesome Cloverfield) has chosen a very bold follow-up project, deciding to remake the most acclaimed and beloved vampire movie of the decade (and a BIG audience favorite at EIFF 2008): Let the Right One In. But give the guy a chance...we think you'll be very pleasantly surprised.
Sunday, September 26th @ 9:30pm - FROZEN
From Adam Green, the rising young director of Hatchet and the upcoming Hatchet II, comes this nail-biter that does for skiing what Jaws did for swimming. Seriously, you are never gonna want to go skiing again after watching this flick! With a great cast of up-and-coming young actors, Frozen is suspense best seen on a BIIIIIG screen!
Monday, September 27th @ 9:30pm - THE CORRUPTED
From the dark and icy heart of...Drayton Valley Alberta (??!!) comes this super-fun thrill ride of a sci-fi horror flick. With production values to match anything Hollywood has to offer, The Corrupted proves there's some pretty kick-ass work being done in this province! Support your local filmmaker!
Tuesday, September 28th @ 9:30pm - DARK SOULS (Morke Sjeler)
From Norway comes a truly unique, wonderfully creepy, and totally bizarre film that's pretty hard to describe...it's a zombie thriller, revenge movie, and slasher flick all rolled into one...but with an unmistakably European look and feel. You're not gonna get a chance to see this one again anytime soon, so trust us - this is a ride worth taking.
Wednesday, September 29th @ 9:30pm - THE ACADEMY
Another example of some of the stellar - and very creative - work being done by Alberta filmmakers, The Academy is an action-packed, breakneck thriller shot right here in good ol' E-Town, by an exciting young writer/director we're definitely going to keep an eye on, Kenneth Barr.
Thursday, September 30th @ 9:30pm - BROTHERHOOD
This fantastic thriller won the 2010 SXSW Audience Award for very good reason - great performances by a cast of rising stars, a deceptively simple, what-can-possibly-go-wrong-now premise, and twists and turns around every corner. A must-see.
Friday, October 1st @ 10:00pm - THE LAST LOVECRAFT
Fresh from a triumphant World Premiere screening at the recent Toronto After Dark festival, this hilarious and enormously entertaining horror comedy is the perfect way to put Edge of Night to bed for another year. This is quite possibly the most fun you'll have at the movies all year, with the funniest hor-com since Shaun of the Dead!
